The Evelina Family Trust was set up in 1986 to provide accommodation and caring support for the families of seriously ill children being treated in the Evelina Children’s Hospital at Guy’s and St Thomas’.
Eighteen families can be accommodated in comfortable family rooms with the use of self-catering kitchens, sitting rooms, laundry facilities, playroom and a peaceful little garden. The charity runs with only three full-time staff and a part-time Family Care Co-ordinator (plus a small army of volunteers and Relief Managers), but providing these facilities without charge to families and making them colourful and stylish to offset the austerity and clinical atmosphere of the Hospital wards is costly. Total running costs for a year are just under £300,000 and the average length of stay is 15 nights. Our House provides 24-hour cover 365 days a year.
